Why I deserved a cheat meal

When we’re exercising for weight loss, we owe it to ourselves to have a cheat meal every once in a while. A cheat meal could be anything you’ve been craving or something you gave up in order to get started losing weight. It’s up to the individual as to when he or she should dive into a cheat meal. For me, I indulged  Saturday, as we were celebrating my and my brothers-in-law birthday!

I consciously decided that dinner was it. I went to the gym that morning and did my arm workout, then went to spin class. That way, I didn’t feel guilty! I drank some beer (which I hadn’t had any in over a month) and ate dinner: pulled pork sandwich (just one!), some pasta salad, a few salt potatoes and a cucumber salad. Desert was a small portion of a key lime bar and a small portion of carrot cake. I honestly ate in moderation. I didn’t go back for seconds on anything and just had the one plate of food. I went with the flow, knowing today was leg day, and I would work some of it off!

A word of advice: If you’re planning on having a cheat meal, go for it! It’s not a bad idea to have a cheat meal every once in a while. It will keep you on track. Just make sure that when you commit, don’t overdo it! If you fall off the wagon, it’s ok. Just get back on!

It’s also good to go out of your way to indulge every now and then. It throws your body’s metabolism off, which will, therefore, kick it in.

I really did enjoy myself yesterday, and I’m not at all disappointed in myself. I was confident in myself to do it. I’ll keep on lifting and stay on track with eating right. You have to have willpower! Otherwise, the weight you’ve lost will be null and void.

Don’t be afraid to take a few bites of sin food! Just say three hail Mary’s and do heavier reps! 🙂 Just think of what you’re working for, what you’re working towards.

You can have a cheat meal when you’ve accomplished a goal, or during the holidays.  They’re spaced out enough that if you cheated on Thanksgiving, you’ll be ok until Christmas. My biggest downfall during the holidays? Homemade Christmas cookies! I know I’ll be ok, because of the goals I have set for myself, and I don’t want them derailed by eating too much. Don’t let the food you’ve decided to cut out rule you. You’re in control of your food choices!
