8 Halloween Safety Precautions for Women to Practice This Season

Follow these Halloween Safety Precautions so that Halloween can be a fun celebration with friends and family, but there is a risk of thinking something is “all in good fun” because of the season and having it turn into a threatening situation. It can be even more challenging for women who have faced confrontations and could not identify predators because of their mask or costume.

Former Deputy Sheriff Joy Farrow and Technologist and Domestic Violence Survivor, Laura Frombach, who are co-authors of the upcoming book Street Smart Safety for Women: Your Guide to Defensive Living (Health Communications Inc, an imprint of Simon & Schuster / October 3, 2023 / $17.95) encourage women to be extra vigilant around this season.

In a full article or interview, Joy Farrow and Laura Frombach can highlight 8 ways for women to stay safe during Halloween, including:

  • Being Wary of Party Predators – Someone may make you uncomfortable or look for the opportunity to drop drugs in your drink. Also, watch for people who may not have been invited.
  • Don’t get Over-Served – Being intoxicated can make you a target, and bring a friend to watch each other’s backs.
  • Don’t wear a costume that is too constricting – If you need to leave quickly or defend yourself,  you don’t want to find out you can’t get up, move your arms, or run.
  • Be Assertive to annoying strangers –  Be firm and direct; tell them you’re not interested and to please stop. If they persist and you’re alone, find a nearby group and tell them about the person.
  • Why you should Carry Self Defense Tools and how you can use them – Such as a small palm size powerful flashlight, Sabre Pepper Spray or a Tactical Pen

Becky Willis

Hi, I am Bec, owner of What Now Bec? (https://whatnowbec.etsy.com) The name comes from my Mom (even at my age of 54 asking that question) lol. With life being so depressing around the world it seems... I have wanted to offer a bit of laughter to anyone that needs it. I am also the wife of Rog from "Life as Rog" for almost 29 years. Mom to 3 adult kids (ages 32b, 29b, and 27g), and Grandma to 2 one girl who is now 13 and a boy who will be 9 in April. Time goes by way too fast.

  • Don’t really participate in this holiday since the kids grew up. We live in a rural area so no treaters either.
